2001 XJ Sport 2wd trans to drive shaft
Hello everyone. My Jeep is pouring out transmission fluid like crazy. it's leaking from the pan and mainly the gasket where the drive shaft and transmission meet. Can anyone please tell me exactly how to remove the drive shaft from it and how to replace the gasket.
thank you all in advance

Crawl under the vehicle and mark the drive shaft where it goes to the rear pinion / differential yoke. If you reinstall the drive shaft 180* from how you removed it, it could cause drive line vibrations. You are marking the drive shaft & differential yoke with ONE line.
Remove the 4 small bolts & U-joint straps holding the drive shaft to the differential yoke. Insert a small pry bar between the u-joint & the differential yoke. You need to slightly pry the drive shaft towards the transmission. Maybe 1/2-3/4 of an inch. Now you can remove the drive shaft.
Now use a seal puller to remove the tail housing seal on the transmission. Once the seal is removed, clean the surface of where the seal sits.
To reinstall the new seal, IT MUST go in evenly. Lightly tap the seal into place. Use a "star pattern". For EXAMPLE, tap at the 12 o'clock position, 6, 9, 3, 7, 1. You get the idea. Reinstall in reverse order. Make sure the driveshaft lines up with the mark you'd made earlier.
Also, now is a good opportunity to replace the u-joint on your driveshaft. You can find you tube videos on how to replace the u-joint. Or, take the drive shaft to a auto repair place & have them do it. Make sure you buy a QUALITY u-joint.
Is the tail housing cracked on your transmission?
Did you do something earlier to make the transmission leak fluid? Did you change the fluid or something? Did you lift the vehicle by using the transmission pan?

Tire chock all 4 wheels. You don't want the vehicle rolling away when you are under it.

I appreciate all the information. no it isn't cracked, I havent changed the fluid or damaged it in any way that I'm aware of. I've had it since 2006 and I'd drive it real hard.
thanks again. it takes a lot of time to write all that out and I appreciate you taking the time to do it. a cool front just came in here at San Antonio so this wknd I'll fix it

So could this be the reason that i’m getting vibes on a 3 inch. i had to remove the driveshaft to get the axle up under my springs and didn’t mark it. can i just i do it and keep rotating it until i find the right position? also since you seem so knowledgeable on the topic, how can i install a sye or double carden straight to my tranny if the vibes don’t stop?
Hold on shooting the parts cannon.
What's the driveshaft/pinion angle? You can get a cheap gauge from Lowes to measure this. It should only be about 1-3 degrees and right now is probably off if you lifted.
