Here's something I found on google..

"this "code" that is displayedby the odometer means there is a connection failure between the gauge cluster and the ECU. this NO BUS is often accompanied by malfuntioning gauges, the check engine light, and the airbag light, although exact gauges and lights may vary. THE SOLUTION in most cases is to remove the gauge cluster and clean the contacts of the cluster. The application of dialectric grease to the electrical contacts will also help greatly. Once the connection is passing voltage on all circuits, the gauges will imediately return to normal without needing a hard reset of the ECU."

my cherokee has the same problem and from what ive read its fairly common. the quote that i got to fix it was outrageous so im not getting it fixed. a temporary fix is to give the dash a few solid taps on the tpo right hand side of the guages

I've been looking around for solutions to this issue as my instrument panel died for a little bit today for the first time. I've found what I think is the perfect solution to the problem.
Walk-through

Haven't tried it yet but the instrument panel isn't essential to driving and it came back on today so no need to rip everything apart yet. Hope this helps and good luck!
Post back here and let us know how it goes

I did the procedure. I did not replace the plugs just cleaned them with contact cleaner and added dielectric grease.

Seems that all is well.

Nice to have this annoying thing gone after three years of ignoring it going out from time to time.

I've been having the same gauge cluster problems for a while now. But recently my running lights and instrument pannel lights won't turn on when I drive at night with the headlights on.is the lighting problem related to the gauge cluster issue??

Just got this yesterday. Lost all gauges and got the no bus odometer. It corrected when I cycled the ignition in the driveway, then it hit again on the road where it corrected itself after about 7-10 seconds. I really do not enjoy pulling dashes or chasing electrical gremlins.

I had the same thing in my '99 Cherokee. It was the PCM. Replaced it with a re-manufactured one which only cost 150.00.
