Default 2000 jeep - would you buy it?

http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/4432309434.html

guy says the head was replaced....obviously the 0331

but if he replaced it with the tupy cast...it should be good

but I worry how long the motor was driven with the old head cracked...and the damage done

would you buy it? im a little nervous when it comes to 2000 and 2001

Eh...... id gnaw his ear off asking questions. First answer not up to snuff- drop it like a hot rock.

Did he verify he put in a tupy head?

Did he replace the fan before or after the head swap.....? Why?

What lift is it? How old? Does it wobble?
Etc...

Thats alot of money to spend and then find out that upgrades were done wrong/poorly.

I agree that I would have a list of questions for the guy, and he better have a solid answer for every one of them.

On a side note, I grew up in Rochester, and a lot of those folks have more $$$ than they know what to do with, so there is a good chance that he paid to have everything done right.

Have you taken an actual look at the vehicle yet or called him to start getting some more info?

I would go in with this strategy.

Do NOT pay more for this vehicle than you would be comfortable with if you need to replace or rebuild the engine. That way, you won't get burned.

If the engine runs great for a long while, you're money ahead. If the engine ends up having damage from the 0331 head, then you have the money to replace or rebuild because you bought it at a good price.

If the seller won't lower his price to factor for the risk, walk away. Lots of XJs out there.....

A super clean lower mileage XJ with known head problems suddenly for sale now that winter's over sends some bad vibes.

Have you talked to the owner yet? Because it's a super clean lower mileage XJ lol. Verify the oil pressure and make sure he's not running ****ing Lucas **** in it.

Don't even contact that dude..personally, i feel if someone is serious about getting rid of a good running vehicle they would go into a little more detail about it..even with that said, dont buy from craigslist..have patience! I was looking for months using craigslist as a medium, among other outlets, and everything i found was perfect on the ad but in person it was junk..ended up finally getting mine from my brother's girlfriend's sister for $800..an '01 sport 4x4 180k..needed some work but engine wasn't about to seize or explode lol

ok guys here is a update

talked to him on the phone

the head is a aftermarket head, without a issue (revised head)

I called fairway engines who sold the head and they verified, except they didn't install it, it was bought over the counter and he installed it

he is not sure who put the aftermarket sun roof in (im sure it leaks)

he has a lot of money into it, the lift is a body 2" lift

rust is a minimal thing but its starting to show in the rockers/floors

he is firm at asking price says he has over 6k into it

im getting a bad vibe from him, so im going to pass. Its something I came across in my tough search for a clean xj

But if anybody knows of a good 91-98 xj with little/no rust and the aw4/231 for sale, please let me know....looking to buy soon...but craiglist is sketchy to say the least

willing to drive 4-5 hours for a nice jeep for a good price

here is a link to another one

I don't know what the XJ's go for in your area but the first one is way over priced for the area that I live in. I would be real careful with the first one since he doesn't know what he is talking about. Since he said he put a 2" body lift. There is absolutely no way a body lift can be put on an XJ.

I wouldnt buy from Chicago, they drive rough, Im surprised to see it still around, assume it has twice the mileage it does from Chicago. Cars dont rust there, they crash.

Sometimes the people who know nothing about their car are the best, if you can get records. My first truck (a 91 s10) was amazing, the guy said it was a 4 cyclinder but it was a v6, all maintenance done by mechanics. Got it for $600 drove for 2 years without any major problems. Only normal stuff. Sold because the brake system needed to be redone.

I would check that first Jeep but Id only offer about $3500 if I felt good about it. Also the death wobble might not be there initially, mine showed up about 4000 miles after buying. My ball joints went bad, after I abused it. (They were probably on their way out anyway)

Speaking of full retard, can you tell us why you think you need to quote an entire post just to reply to it?

Are you sure? What about a little cutting and welding?
