Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport

Hey fellas Im new here and own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport, awesome truck. Anyway it needs a new front cv halfshaft driver side. I got it all apart and purchased a new one from Advance... I know, I know. Well it turns out that the new one has a boot on it and is longer than the old one, wont fit. The old shaft has the u joint exposed and is shorter. I was wondering if this is a dealer only part, or did they go to the boot style for aftermarket? Any help would be appreciated. thanks fellas

I think you pulled out the axle shaft and somehow?? got a CV drive for something other than a 2000 Cherokee Sport. All you need to do is get a replacement U-Joint for the axle shaft and replace it and be done- it is replaceable without removing the axle shaft, and both U-Joints (driver and passenger sides) should be replaced at the same time. A CV drive would be something that is used on the Liberty that has individual control arms and inner and outer CV joints, (Halfshafts) where the Cherokees have a solid front axle and only outer U-joints that are exposed.

New to this but have a stupid problem, I'm replacing the rear main seal on my 2000 jeep cherokee sport (4L) and can't get the oil pan out, don't have enough clearance. Is taking the motor mounts out and lifting the engine the only way to get the pan out?

Again newbie here and 55 years old to boot, this is kicking my butt!

Sorry if this is the wrong thread!
