2000 cherokee sport cranks but no start
My 2000 4x4 cherokee sport cranks fine but will not start. It has been sitting for about 1 month w/o being used. Any ideas on what has happened here? Never a problem before.

my '88 was doing the same thing this weekend - try unplugging the CPS (top right hand side of the engine bay as you look from the front of the car) & plugging it back in. It cleared the problem on mine (at least temporarily, I'll still replace it to be sure).
Good luck.
Good luck.

- I'll give the cps a look this morning
- No "no bus" indicated on the odometer
- fuel is coming thru the schrader valve
- re: iac. pressing on the gas pedal does not get it started
- thought it might be the spark plug coil (may be called the ignition coil)which is about 30" long and 2" wide and has 3" long rubber nipples that fit over the spark plugs and has a plug into the ignition wire. It bolts into the top left (from the front) of the engine block. Replaced this but it was not the problem.
Hv pretty much discharged the battery from cranking. Am recharging.
Thanks for your input. Any other thoughts?

no start
Hi just went through this with a 97 cherokee. I checked spark, fuel, communication.. everything by the way no check engine light or codes... it turned out to be the cat converter any easy way to check is remove the forward 02 sensor and try to start it .. If it starts probally same problem I had a clogged cat, changed the cat and 02 sensor and back on the road again..

Disconnect the battery for a minit or so. This will re set all the sensors and the ECU. (it will run a little lumpy when it starts, as the ECU will need to re learn its settings)

X 2 on sounds like Crank Position Sensor. Do a google search on "Jeep 4.0 CPS troubleshooting". There is all kinds of information out there on how to read your CPS out with a multi-meter. Un hook the plug on driver's side of fire wall between the motor and brake booster. It takes about 2 minutes to figure out if it's bad or not. My son just bought a CPS for is 87 XJ at our friendly neighborhood Autozone. It was like $45. i hope this helps.
