Default Getting ready to change Valve cover gasket, anything I should check?

Im getting ready to change the valve cover gasket and was wondering if there is anything special I should check once I have the cover off? The rockers is about all I could think of.

look for deposits and old broke-down engine oil deposits. Done one on my old 94 GC a few years back. Looked like someone had placed lumps of coal inside it. Removed as much as I could with screwdrivers and scapers. Then threw it back together, ran some cheap oil and kerosene through it, let it set and get warm running at idle for about 20min. Drained it refilled with good oil and new filter. Looked amazing inside there again not to mention my oil pressure always stayed above 40psi+ after that. I changed it again not even 1000mile later to make sure everything was flushed out

I did mine a few weeks ago. nothing to it 3/8 drive socket set deep about 1 hour . i used a felpro steel core gasket surrounded with RTV silicone ready to go no sealent needed worked great. good time to change your rubber grommets on top of the cover if needed.

Thanks guys! I will watch out for that cable.

And I did get the grommets with the fel-pro gasket. So I will be changing them as well, thanks again. If I mess it up, I will let you know. lol

just did mine last week, the corner of my valve cover hung up a little on the edge of the thermostat housing, I had to loosen the top bolt on the housing to get the cover back on, only lost about a pint of coolant, you may have to do the same thing.

My gasket was in such good condition, I did'nt even change it, 118,000mi. on engine, was the original as far as I know.

Just tighting down the valve cover bolts a little stopped my oil leak

Yup, got a small leaky leak on the back side of mine as well. Only 97k on my new-to-me '00, but I'm going to yank it off and replace the gasket/clean the cover when I get back from the Congo in 2 weeks. Let us know how it goes!

Valve cover gasket is done. Broke one bolt but lucky for me it was at the very left front, under the coolant hose so my EZ out made quick work of it. Put all new grade 8 hardware back in just to be safe.

Once the cover was I off I wish my camera was charged up. No sludge, no problems with the rocker or springs. I was suprised, she has 180,xxx on the odom. Looked like new.
