Default 2000 cherokee sport

Hey guys Im new here. I just picked up a sport and love it already. However the power locks quit working. I took the passenger side door panel off and found the thick black cable (ground I think) and when I touched it the locks kept actuating back and fourth. the switch seemed to work fine when I popped the panel back on it still was spastic so I disconnected it. Can any one point me in the right direction?

Busted wire somewhere (check where wires go from the door to the body through the rubber sleeve, i have had a stock speaker wire break there). I have a 2001 (I am guessing they didn't change from 00-01) and if you loose connection to either of the driver or passanger side switch the system will auto unlock on mine so if you have an intermittend ground that connects and reconnects that would explain why its spassing out.

do you know if the thick black wire is indeed the ground or not? I will trace it back though. Thank you

From what I am seeing on the wiring diagram that's your main ground going into the switch pannel

Default Door panel switches

sometimes If you jiggle the door and it works then its a short connection or a stripped wire.

from my experience the biggest cause of intermittent operation of windows has been the drivers door switch panel it self. Years of dust , moisture and wattnot keep the switches working only half the time. There are many posts describing the method of opening the switch panel and cleaning the switches. I have done this with great success. I even got a used switch panel to practice on... worked well no half rolled down windows before the switch quit. Should work here also.
