2" or 2.5" lift. I'm torn plus need help.
1989 XJ 4.0 4x4 auto
It is getting close to me getting the lift for my jeep. I will not be off-roading I'm just doing the lift to make it look better. Now if I need to go off-road or get stuck the 4x4 is always there haha.
Any way at first I was set on 2" but now I'm thinking 2.5". I wanting my cherokee, stock now, to sit around the height of say a stock 85-89 toyota pick-up. I want to this as cheap as possible as I don't have a lot of money to spend. So first question is what's your opinion on the lift size to get close to that look? Second what parts would I need from junk yard to get that lift or what's the cheapest way?
PS I've read don't use blocks, any truth?

I was thinking of just getting some leaf springs from junk yard and some 2"-2.5" spacers (if that's all I need) as I will not be off-roading unless it's necessary but I'm trying to figure out which leaf springs to get to get around 2-2.5". Then I'll start researching how to actually do it.

Sorry my friend, but I couldn't even come close to spending $400 on a lift right now.

You should do shocks regardless.

If you have a really good junk yard thank is pretty cheap you can. The problem is with those lifts you are at the limit of your shocks all the time. I would reccomend saving until you can do it properly.

This post is stickied at the top of the page. You can build bastard packs https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/bud...herokee-58797/
Poly or Rubber bushings and coil spring spacers can be found readily. I have a set of 2.5" rear Old Man Emu springs and front spacers you can buy for $200 plus shipping, but the springs will need new bushings.

Hell for $438 you can buy a full spring lift kit a 3" with new coils and leafs that includes shocks, hardware from Rustys Off Road all made in NA. The leafs and coils are high quality even in the budget kits. A 3" lift is the most common and cheapest to do (least amount of parts that have to be replaced) and 1 extra inch is not that much more noticeable over the 2" and they have more and better quality kits for it. You can bet that your leafs are old sagging and well as the coils and both really need to be replaced if you plan on any lifting.
I would suggest that you save a little money and do your lift correctly the first time around as opposed to the approach your considering only to do it over again. Some of these if not done properly with the correct parts can be dangerous.
For the money you were planning on spending for a complete lift you can't even buy 1 good shock or all new hardware needed.
