1997 xj 4.0 high idle
Hey yall!
I recently got a 1997 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 4.0. In the begining of getting it I knew this was going to be a learning experience for me.
Well she has high idle in park, nuetral, n reverse. About 2,000-3,000 rpms in those. When I put it in drive the engine idles at about 1,000. And it sounds like it wants to stall.
I replaced the tps n cleaned the iac.
Any help would be appreciated!!

1. Search for a vacuum leak. That can increase your rpms at idle.
2. I'd consider replacing your IAC. Cleaning it does not guarantee return to function. I'm partial to Mopar/Jeep IAC units.
3. For any new to you, unless you have records showing it was done recently, fresh Champion plugs gapped to .035, quality plug wires, cap, rotor. Check air filter
4. Did you clean the throttle body and throttle plate mechanism? If not, do so.
5. Any check engine light? Of course, retrieve codes.
