Default 1997 Jeep XJ idling high

Okay so I noticed today that if I push on the gas while driving and get going at least 20 mph, when I completely let off the gas the jeep will keep going 20 MPH and won't stop? Please help

Check for vacuum leaks. Remove and clean the Idle Air Control stepper motor (IAC). Clean your throttle body. Be sure that all your vacuum hoses are not damaged or blocked up or connected to the wrong spots.

Good luck!

Readjust your throttle cable easy to do, just Google or search here for directions. If this doesn't take care of the problem check back as this one is the easiest to do.

Default Update

Thanks for the help, the problem has escalated now to start the jeep I have to have the gas pushed all the way down, honesty sounds like a lawn mower when it starts, in addition the engine temperature gauge is no longer working, I taking the jeep to the mechanic tht just replaced the water pump and they also did something with the throttle and idle , to fix a previous problem with the jeep not starting unless I pushed lightly on the gas and then ideled the engine at 1500rpm for about 5 minutes for it to stay on. I will take it there after school and keep you all updated, if you have any other suggestions they would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
