Default 1997 jeep cherokee stalls out?

I just bought a 1997 jeep cherokee, 4x4, auto, 4 door....It runs great i have already driven it 600miles since i bought it 5 days ago and it runs very very good....

But it has stalled out of me 4 times for no reason and then after about 20-30 mins of waiting it will start back up and i am able to drive it again. I have no idea what is causing this. Its all stock from top to bottom so no upgrades or anything.

No check engine lights on, no over heating light, nothing showing me there is somthing wrong it just shuts off and when i go to start it all it does is crank over, but not start???

Can anyone help me out with this problem?

Check the CPS(Crankshaft Positioning Sensor) Do a search through this forum and you will find lots of threads that sound exactly like what you are experiencing. Good Luck, and be sure to post once you have solved the problem

I dont think it runs rough at all it seems to be running fine.

1st time: i pulled up to my buddys house and turned it off and it would not start again.

2nd time: left buddys house came to a light and stalled wouldnt start.

3rd time: off roading in the creek bottom and it died.

4th time: in the drive thru and it died.

Those are the 4 times it died on me....everything else works great so if i get this 1 little problem fixed that will be awsome

First I'd replace the fuel filter (rear driver side above axle) always good to have a clean fuel filter n its cheap like $13 I think....

So just change the fuel filter? If it was the fuel filter why does it stall out and not start for 30 mins? i am trying to find a thread on here about my problem....

Don't have a clue as to y but that solved my problem the first time!! The second time it happened to me it was the crankshaft positioning sensor (on the top behind the valve cover between the motor and transmission) sometimes it would just die n I could wiggle the wires to it and it would start right up

I had a friend with 98 his would cut out, turned out it was the coil it would get hot and stop working, then no fire but would fire up about 25 mins later, replaced Crank sensor still did it, Cam Sensor still did it, he finally talked to a guy and he said the coil was either going bad, or had a bad power connection. Similar to Freegdr's suggestion worth looking into.
