fuel pressure regulator disconnected
Grand Cherokee 2002 Laredo 4WD L6,
Fuel injection rail pressure regulator (silver cap) was leaking for a couple of weeks only after the first cold engine start. I got it fixed without replacement. However, today, when I tried to start the engine, the car had too much gas leakage under the hood. I found the regulator was somehow disconnected from its position.
Is there a way to reconnect it without any tool-kit and safe to drive the car if I fix it by myself?
Shall I replace the whole rail or is it a single part that could be replaced?
Thank you

Short answer: NO!
Long answer: First, post some pictures of what you are describing. If the pressure regulator has come apart, you will need to replace it (along with the rail I beleive).
Final Answer: Buy a good fiire extinquisher (or two) and mount them where you can get to them in a hurry. If you smell fuel, get it and be ready to use it before popping the hood. I took off the trim piece on the left side of my driver's seat, replaced it with a piece of plywood, and mounted the extinquisher to it. As soon as I open the door, it is there, and it does not move around. I have seen too many vehicles ruined by fire (including a nice Wrangler that was melted so bad that I couldn't identify the engine type) because nobody had an extinquisher available. I also saved my wife's 66 Stang from anything more than 1st degree burns after a carb fire because I could get to one in a hurry.
