Default No sound from speakers?

Radio worked fine last night. But now today when I started it up, I have no sound from my speakers (only have the front ones). The radio gets power... the display works fine, just no sound output. Put fade all the way to front: nothing. It's a stock tape deck in a '96

Possibly a bad connection from the radio or the most common problem is the wires that go from the door jamb into the door often break from flexing from the door opening and closing.

My front speakers didn't work when I got XJ with stock head unit. I swapped HU with aftermarket one and front speakers worked.. Idk...

Not the wires in the doors... BOTH front speakers went out. I've developed a pretty significant vibration from swapping to aftermarket motor mounts, just wondering perhaps if something may have wiggled loose in the back of the head unit. I reeeeeeeally dread pulling the dash apart to look.

If you are getting a lot of vibration it is very possible that something came lose or possibly something worst something broke int he unit. Hopefully not the second.

However! If you are getting power to your HU then it could lend some credit to there not being loose connection on the back... Just a thought. I know that one side could have came out etc, but hmm.

Just took it out, was hoping that the connector had come loose on the side with the speaker connection and just needed to be popped back in... no luck. All the connections at the head unit are good.

Like I said it literally worked the night before until I turned the ignition off. Crank up the next morning and nothing.

Could something inside the head unit have shorted? It just baffles me because the HU gets power and all the buttons work... it's like the volume **** just decided to take a vacation.

I suppose I'll swing by the JY and swap a new HU in to see if it works. So frustrating.

Mine's doing basically the same thing and all connections on the back of head unit were tight when checked. The FM radio completely drops out sometimes too, and the AM still works just fine. I'm planning on putting a new head unit in this summer, hoping that takes care of it.

Threw in a new head unit from the junkyard this afternoon... works like a charm. Guess it shorted out from the inside.

I had a feeling it was going to be that when you said you had a bad vibration. At least you have a radio that work now.

Got lucky, too... out of the 15 wrecked and stripped XJ's out there, only 1 had a radio still in it.
