1995 JeeP Cherokee=Reverses in Drive???
Hi all,
Im new to this and have a question.
I own a 1995 jeep cherokee sport and sometime when the car is in stop, like at a light, stop sign,or parking lot, it would sometimes go in reverse while the car is stoped in drive?
It will roll back when i try to accelerate, like its trying to find gears or something and then will go foward? It happened to me about 6-8 times and luckly no one was behind me. It's really scarry , I have the thing parked in the garage right now. Maybe if i don't cost to much to fix, i might just fix it and trade in for a 1999 or 2002 Dodge Durango? what you guys think...... any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.........

Are you on a hill at all? If you're on a steep enough hill, any automatic will roll back some.
To check the fluid level, bring the Jeep up to normal operating temperature and set the parking brake. Then run the transmission through each gear (reverse, neutral, drive, 3, and 1-2), then bring it back to neutral. With it still in neutral, check the fluid level and verify that it's where it should be. If it's low, add the necessary amount via the dipstick tube (you'll need a funnel). Make sure you use the proper fluid! The AW4 takes Dexron III. If memory serves, Dexron III is now Dexron IV, and is perfectly fine to use. Just make sure it's not ATF+3 or ATF+4!
I would advise trading it in on a Durango. I've read of a lot of them having sludge problems. Haven't had any experiences with them however, this is just what i've read.
