Default 1991 xj squeaky front brakes

Just replaced my front pads and now a week later the passenger side is squeaking. pulled it apart today and everything looks fine but still squeaks. The pads are duralast lifetime brand, first set was fine and didn't squeak. How can i stop this? Thanks!

I recently changed the pads of my car and after cleaned the parts pretty well but still squeals. Put brake quiet spray which was real tacky and it sort of binds when the vehicle resting. But the binding went away and squeal came back. I learned to live with it as it will eventually wear down and noise will go away.

It can be embarrassing especially once when driving into a parking lot and while passing a young attractive lady, I applied the brakes for a speed bump and my car did the perfect whistle-like squeal.

Mack,do a search for "brakes sticking".
Your problem could be your brakes not releasing completely.
You have to clean all sides of the knuckles where the pads ride on.
Then lube the area. See my photos.

buy better pads, the $20ish set of duralast pads aren't that great. I recommend a good set of ceramic pads.

well I did a little of everything. I pulled the calipers and pads again, cleaned everything real good and got some of the crc disc brake quiet and crc brake caliper grease. Not squeaking now, but we will see. Thanks for the advice!

lube both ridges with disk brake lube on top and bottom knuckles.
Swap out your pads. Metallic or semi-metallic pads may squeal.
I like the ceramic pads offered by Brake Motive available on e buy.
Never a squeak.

I've had issues with those dura last brakes. They wear out fast. The "lifetime" pads and cheap price sound good at first. However, if you're like me you'll find yourself doing 3 brake jobs in two years. Plus, I don't think they stop good and produce a pile of brake dust.

I only go to stealers hip for pads now. I spent $130 on the last set for my Tahoe. It's been 100k miles and they are still going on that heavy vehicle. Hardly any brake dust at all. Just my .02....

Buy ceramic brake pads and never look back.

Well I did everything, thought I was squeak free, was for almost a day, NOPE! Looks like if I can't live with it then I will swap to ceramic pads. I just think its odd that the first set of Duralast metallic pads didn't squeak until the very end of their life and that these only squeak sometimes. Oh well, thanks for the help!
