Default on 1990 jeep cherokee

I had a problem with it not going out of 1st gear ,I read everything all of you said to me and others .and what we ended up doing is disconnecting the TCU and now it shifts mannualy.IS it ok to drive it like that until I find the part? Thanks

so long as you are getting all the gears and not over-reving the engine to make speed, you will be ok.

Default 1990 jeep

Thank you it drives real nice I drive in 1st up to 15 then I shift to 3rd and then at 35 I shift to drive. Hope I'm doing right .Thanks again you guys have been very helpful to someone that is learning her jeep and am I.This has not been my first problem but she's doing good.

mine did the same thing and it ended up being one of the shift solenoids. there located at the valve body just inside of the pan but also can be the fuse for the tcu or the tcu as well.

A buddy of mine had this problem. I told him there are a few solenoids under the tranny filter. He changed them out and hasn't had a problem since.

Thank all of you again we tested the solenoids with a tester and the all was pushing 14omns ..So so far as we can tell it is the TCU.I'm hitting junk yards up today before I put the money into a new one and make sure thats it. But it's doing good right now without it.

my solenoid only failed when warm but good luck at the jy.
