1990 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 2Door Question-Problem
Hello everyone. Has anybody ever heard of a blinker relay? When I got it out of the body shop, one guy said I needed a blinker relay because the right blinker was out, so I replaced it with a bulb then the backlights were out and I put a new fuse in.. So now, the right blinker only decides when or when not to work. And when I turn the lights on at night, the right blinker stays solid but is not on, when I turn it off, the right side goes off.
If I need to explain this more detailed. I will.
Thank you.

so your mechanic at the body shop said you needed a blinker relay . . . so you replaced the turn signal bulb, and a fuse? what fuse did you replace?
the blinker relay is the electrical component that cycles the on-off operation of your turn signals . . .
does your left signal work? is it both front and rear right turn signals that are out? or am I way off and you're talking about the indicators in the dash?

It could be the switch itself, but it could be the relay here is a part number for autozone.com #EL12. It is located on the diver side under the dash, above the kick panel.

Hello thanks for replying
I searched for this part and I am pretty sure I replaced it. on my driver side. But only the right blinker is on sometimes or off sometimes.

thanks. I'll try this. By any chance do you know how much this would cost to get fixed? My friends keep telling me its hard to find a problem with the wiring cause it can be anywhere

You could get it fixed for a couple of buck or a couple of hundred bucks depending on what they do to find it and how long it takes. First try to add extra grounds to the lights to see if that solves the problem.
Blinker relays are refered to as flashers at most places. If you replaced the flasher and the bulb and still have the problem then you need to check the contacts for the bulb and clean them (corrosion) and next to add a ground on that particular bulb.
Should fix it for you.

I definitely agree with BlueXJ, before you go too crazy, look into the bulb fixtures and take some sandpaper or something and clean out those contacts. Also, look on the back of the fixtures (plugs) and make sure that the ground is getting a contact. I've had these issues on multiple cars where it was just the ground. Sometimes even putting a screw in to keep the contact tight to the bulb will give you a temp. remedy. If the contacts seem secure and clean, trace the ground and make sure it's good on some bare metal. Checking continuity with your voltmeter should let you know how good of a ground you're getting.
