Default 1990 Jeep cherokee 4.0 L not starting

Well I have been having problems with my 1990 jeep cherokee 4.0L for some time a few months ago it would keep stalling out as i went to accelerate and since then I have replaced the fuel pump, and another problem arose my battery kept dying so I went out and bought a new battery and that one dies, so I replace my alternator and that solved the battery dying problem however, last sunday as I was driving home my jeep wouldn't accelerate as I hit the gas pedal and my gas gauge was broken so I assumed I was out of gas and I pulled into a gas station and filled up and it started working fine until I about 4 miles from home it started sputtering and I could hear some loud noise coming from what I assume to be the fuel pump and the car wouldn't accelerate over 25, but this time it wasn't stalling out it just kept sputtering. It started doing that today when I was on my way to my friends house so I turned around brought it home and noticed I was low on oil and the car was starting fine until I went out and bought oil and put it in and then the car wasn't starting I honestly have no clue what is wrong with my jeep because now it's not starting I've tried waiting a bit and then retrying it and it still won't start I can hear the machine cranking but it's as if the jeep isn't getting any gas to start. So if anyone could be of assistance I would much appreciate it!

I felt the need to take a breath reading that, then I realized I wasn't reading out loud. Sounds like a fuel issue, maybe your pump/filter is having troubles. I'm sure others will have much more on this though.

Just want to add something earlier when I had the jeep running I could hear a hissing and the smell of gas towards the fuel pump not sure if that matters and I know my spark plugs are working.

1. You need a strong, blue, snapping spark. Pull a plug, keep it attached to the plug wire, place the plug electrode near a good engine ground, have a buddy crank the engine while you watch. If you have yellow/orange/white, that indicates a weak spark which could be a faulty ignition coil. If you have no spark, that could be the coil, ignition control module, or the crankshaft position sensor.

2. Spark check out? Then confirm fuel. Try spraying a small amount of starting fluid into the intake. If the engine starts and runs momentarily, you have confirmed a fuel delivery problem. The 1990 needs 31 psi of pressure to START. Confirm with a fuel pressure gauge if there is ANY question.

I haven't tried that yet because my budget is tight ( I'm a teenager still in high school with no job) which is why I'm trying to narrow down the problem before I go spending more money.

All of the above are great places to start. One thing that gets overlooked some times though is the MAP sensor. Find it, unplug it, and then try to start tthe Jeep. If it runs with it unpluged then thats the problem. But try the above stated also/first. Good Luck

the best way to save money is proper trouble shooting

Ok So I got it to start by cleaning off all the electronics ,however a wire plugged into the cyllanoid(sp?) is smoking upon startup and it cuts right off after starting up. Any ideas?

I just had the same problem with my rig. Fuel filter changed, got almost 1/4 tank of fuel and still didn't start. The car was a little bit lifted on the passenger side and once I put it levered with the street, then fuel pump started to send fuel to injectors and then engine started.
A hell of headache gave me the rig this morning.

I forgot. Last nigh when I parked the car at home, it was reading 1/4 fuel tank. This morning when it happened, was reading 1/2 fuel tank. Does anybody can figure or tell me why the heck this is happening?

I'm thinking on buying an universal fuel gauge and install it. If this issue is regarding wire harness, dash instrument cluster or even the fuel buoy, I'll appreciate for any tip on this.

Greetings!

You are going to have to be more specific. What solenoid? DETAILS will get you the most accurate replies.

One more time troubles have overcome...

Engine started well on the morning. Ran over 5 mile distance and engine suddenly engine stopped. Check on the fuel injection rail and there was enough fuel pressure to run again the engine but this not happened until a few minutes after.

It started again, came back home and engine stalled 2 more times again. I changed the ignition module with the coil and engine started and runs ok. Now, took it to almost 4 mile ride and only there was a little misfire that distributor stops sending spark to the spark plugs and then it started again to send spark. So, I don't know a hell about electronics or electromechanics, but this may be an issue with the ignition module I took off from the rig and replaced with the other I have spare?
