Default Site Changes

Ok this weekend I am making some changes to the site layout that will help improve the user experience as a whole. Below I will list the changes I am making at this point in a series of changes being made.

Tech Area:
A) Cherokee Chat will be renamed to XJ/MJ Tech - This will be used for all General XJ/MJ tech related questions. If it's not Tech do not post it here.

B) Adding Advanced Tech & Fab - This will be used for all Cherokee's XJ/MJ/ZJ?WJ. This will only be used for advanced Tech and Fabrication. General Tech does not go here.

General Area:
A)
Will rearrange some order of the different sections here.

B) Adding Cherokee Chat - this will be for any Jeep Cherokee Chat that is non-tech. So you can post pic threads to show off your new rig with new additions. You can post pretty much anything that's non-tech about Cherokee's.

Wheeling Discussion:
A) Added Outdoor Adventure - this area used for pretty much anything outdoors that we do in out jeeps other then trail rides.. So if you camp, fish, hunt and on just post and talk about that here. This is a test run to see if this sort of an area would be used.

Now for some changes that are removals.

A) Removed the Ebay, Craigslist and External Ads area. The reason we removed this is simple the area was meant for placing posts about external ads on ebay, craiglist or other site where items are being sold for jeeps. Well if members want to buy items off ebay, craiglist or any other site that sells items they are welcome to go search those sites but posting those ads here is just clutter and really never has been truly useful. I do realize some folks used it as a means to ask questions about the ads which is fine but we have an Off-topic secton that would be perfect for such things. If you want to share a good deal we have the Wheeling Neighborhood that has specific sections for specific regions so feel free to share any good deals there. If you just have a question as to whether a price if a good deal we have a new Cherokee Chat in the General section that is geared towards all out Jeep Chereokee questions that are not Tech related.

B) In the Tech area Other Jeep Chat and in the General area Other Vehicles will be going away and all posts moved to Off-topic. Bottom line this is a Cherokee site and we want to keep it as such. There are plenty of great sites with lots of great information about other vehicles and other Jeeps. We as a community are primarily Cherokee owners (ie XJ/MJ/ZJ/WJ) and we want to maintain that topic here. You are much better off asking your tech related questions about any other vehicle or jeep at a site dedicated to that particular rig to get a much more reliable and informed answer.

Anyways there are the changes happening this weekend. I think the Advanced Tech and Fab section will be well accepted and the other changes will get the site back on topic, flowing better and streamline the end user experience a lot better. This way new members will understand exactly what to post where and be able to keep on topic.

Future changes coming will be the Wheeling neighborhods will get a make over to make them much more usefull to everyone. So look for those changes to come in tme.

As with all change, it will take some getting used to. I look forward to seeing how these changes shape the forum. We can only hope that everyone will read this thread and understand how these changes affect what is acceptable within each sub-forum.

It looks a little different, but people will adapt to the changes in no time. I don't know about those smilies though. How'd they get my pic?

Yeah I like the new smileys. You can thank Nathan for those. It was his idea and he added them. Was definitely a good idea. More smileys never hurts..

I agree. Some are posting in the wrong section, but hasn't that always been the case?

Ya know that has been someone we have talked about for some time and have yet to come up with a good way of handling this. So if you or anyone else has a suggestion on how to do that please post it in the suggestions area so we can take a look at it. It's tough in a forum layout to really organize writeups in a fashion that's easy to both search and post in.

I like the write-ups section now you should have seen it prior to being organized the way it is.

The next step once we get more write-ups will be to organize them based on Engine, body, suspension and what not. But that may be awhile still.

Just an update...I combines Other Jeep Chat and Other Vehicles into a single area called Other Vehicles. In this area you can discuss tech and such about any vehicle other then Cheokees, Grand Cherokees and MJ's..

Would it be possible to add Canada to Wheeling Neighbourhoods? The post- Canadians Post Here - is almost impossible to find and this is why you have very few Canadians on here. If you can`t add us, then I for one will have to move on. Cherokees are very popular here in Canada and you are missing out on a lot of great input by ignoring us.
