I know Don (the previous owner) was in a similar situation, as far as not knowing a heck of a lot about XJ's.

Nathan and I really view our job here is to provide a great environment for people to learn about XJ's and enjoy a great community. At the end of the day, we are here to serve the community.

You sound like a politician...

We moved to Texas a little while ago and I sold my truck to pay for the move and because we just had our second kid and we needed something with a back seat. Right now I'm saving up for a new vehicle but since I work from home we've just been sharing my wifes "family car". It's actually worked out well although I'm really itching to by something soon.

My old truck was a 2000 Toyota Tacoma you can see here (I really miss it):

That doesn't mean I don't love Jeeps though and would love to get one. Jeeps are one of the funnest vehicles I've ever driven. I used to be a construction manager for Lennar Homes and the guy I built homes with had a wrangler. Since we worked on a construction site we had A LOT of time to take advantage of the terrain. We rarely took my truck out because his Jeep was so much fun. There's just something about a Jeep that feels so awesome. You just feel like you can take on any off road challenge.

Anyways, probably not the answer you guys were hoping for but neither Don, Jon or I own a Jeep. We also don't own an F150 although we run www.F150Forum.com. As Jon said we are here to try and create the best community for you guys so you can enjoy it. That's our focus although I'm looking forward to learning along the way.

Since you need a backseat and Cherokees are cheap it sounds like a match made in heaven. We can help you pick a good one and repair whatever happens with it. That way you will become a real part of the Jeep community instead of a caretaker for it. JMHO as you know.

Yea, I've been thinking about it. Finding that good mix of low miles and a good price is key. I'm in Austin and I've been checking the Auto Trader.

Stryker loves the craigslist as well. I have seen a few down here on it but they are too highly priced here b/c of their eventual sale to Mexican Nationals. Jeeps abound in Mex and they often are bought just to cross the river permanently, thus the high prices they command here.

Lets get you a baby hauler first. Then we can mod it as the time and money permit. It is easier to get a baby hauler past the wife anyway (wink, wink)

The XJ frame is definitly the way to go seeing how they are CHEAP. Blue is right I love Craigslist i bought two jeeps for under 2k. BUt ofcourse buying the way I buy them they always need work. But after shedding the blood, sweat, and tears fixing it. I wouldn't trade it for nothing.

You pick one up from the JY on your way up there. IDK if it is 4wd i always assume it is since it is a Jeep. I can't believe they ever made 2wd ones. Either way my point was you can usually find a Jeep Cherokee with very lil search. Even if this one doesnt wrap up they are easy to find. I found each of mine with a lil patience and alot of searching and I love em.

Yea, I'd want a 4 door 4WD. I'd prefer Dark Green, 2000 (ish), with around 100K. But I'm going to need to save up a bit longer. I don't do car loans and we have a few other expenses coming up first. Hopefully soon though.

Yeah in that case you will need close to 5-6 grand. They are still running high but with gas prices you have room to negotiate to the lower to mid 4's atleast that is what I have heard. 100,000 miles is nothing for a Jeep don't let that scare you in the least bit especially and Auto.
