Alright.
So google for jeep cherokee rock sliders and find some of the best designs that you like and what they are made out of.
3/16" seems to be the standard some offer 1/4" (i prefer 1/4")
You want to mount it using the leaf hanger bolts and the unirail for the back mount and a 3x3 angle or box to mount the front.
If you mount bolts all the way thru the unibody rails and dont use c channel or box you need to sleeve the frame rails.
You also need to incorporate the Pinch seam below the doors.
Remember the back is farther out than the front.
Meassure 3-4 times and draw it up before you cut any metal.
It is really not that hard just takes some planning If you want more help PM me I can draw you up something.
I saw build it you be more appreciative of it and save alot of money

This is not a cherokee (its a new grand) but it shows you how to incorporate the pinch seam:
here is a basic idea of how you can mount it using self tapping bolts:
here is some 3x3 angle. I would use 3x3 box if you can get some tho. and then use a piece of flat steel welded on to mount to the spring hanger as well
here is a good diagram to follow (its from this website)
Here is a good view of how they should look when they are done. notice the rear mounts??
