Since I haven't been flooded with gobs of seat offers, I'm trying a second upholstery shop.
This guy says it's a very "technical" seat because of the construction, but he is confident he can bring it back to very close to original. We shall see next Saturday. He pulled the passenger seat, and will fabricate both sides and complete the job then.
Just for chits and giggles, here's some pics of the botched passenger seat. Note the cream instead of grey vinyl, the color of the fabric (blue grey with red flecks), no stitching, and the overall construction. The drivers side is just as bad.
Not something you'd want to show your mother.

Yeah that was a freedom someone put a set of aftermarket leathers in. I thought about it but I didn't feel like pulling them. Got a set of country panels though.

Well, I picked up the seats yesterday and threw them in the truck. The guy said they were a real ***** to make due to the cushions on each side of the backrest.
He was pretty proud of the way they turned out, and was beaming ear to ear when I told him he did a pretty good job. I didn't have the heart to tell him he used a lighter shade of gray than it had before.
All of the employees in this guys shop are disabled in one way or another. He also takes in young disabled kids who would have a tough time finding a job anywhere else. (If you look at the picture of the botched seat, you'll see the guy behind it is missing his legs.)
I also hire disabled folks whenever I can.
So anyway, here's the recovered seats:
The white stuff on the carpet is baking soda. I can't keep the inside of this truck dry to save my life.
I'm still on the lookout for a set of grey leather seats in good shape if any of you guys happen to come across a set..

I actually bought some Laredo non folding seats in good shape and got lucky with being given extra 2-door seat frames and I rebuilt the sad vinyl seat with the good covers. I would say they turned out 90-95% perfect. If you lived near by I would give you my extra parts for next to nothing. I actually only did my drivers seat because I found a perfect folding Laredo in a Comanche (rare!) and swapped that right in.

We discovered my frames are in great shape; almost like new. The second upholstery job turned out great, and I'm happy with them.
The only thing I would change is if I could find leather ones in great shape.
Now I gotta turn my attention to up front again. Once again, I have the problem of the engine turning over but not starting. It's aggravating as hell.
